A month on from returning home after lifesaving surgery in Barcelona, the 27-year-old is slowly getting her life back after four years confined to her bed. Suffering from a severe form of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) meant the slightest move could leave Melanie in agony and trigger multiple dislocations across her body. But after two pioneering operations the Newcastle University graduate, from Cramlington in Northumberland, she is now sitting up for more than two hours at a time. And she is loving every moment of her new life, from the simplest household tasks to milestones like her first meal out with friends in four years.
