2017 EDS Global Learning Conference

(Editor’s note: flying to the conference? Read these air travel tips to make your trip smoother.)
The Ehlers-Danlos Society is Vegas bound! Their 2017 Global Learning Conference is less than a week away and we are excited! From an explanatory update on the new criteria, and information on the manifestations of EDS, to self-management and treatment plans, this conference is packed with a diverse group of specialists, researchers, advocates, and leaders from around the world, each with an expertise and focus on Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. (Read our wraps from Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3.)
What I am personally looking forward to, you ask? Professor Rodney Grahame (no relation, I wish!) always provides an insightful understanding of the ever-changing, and sometimes confusing, world of EDS. He is kicking off this conference with a discussion about the new criteria from an “old timer’s view.” New to the mix are a few discussions on strengthening and postural solutions for instability using methods like the Alexander Technique and Pilates. What is this exactly? Well, I guess we’ll find out!
One of the most interesting sessions will be on the hot topic of Mast Cell. Last year, Dr. Anne Maitland talked about MCAS, discussing what mast cells are and how anaphylaxis can occur in four different ways, even inside the body! Let me tell you, this is a session that you do not want to miss.
As someone who suffers with extreme and chronic Cranio-cervical and Vertebral Instability, I am looking forward Dr. Fraser Cummins Henderson’s talk on headaches with EDS. In addition, did you know that TMJ instability can also affect and increase cranio-cervical instability, too? You will definitely find me at Dr. John Mitakides’s talk on Thursday afternoon.
A list of speakers, as of August 30, is below, and the conference website has additional speaker information and a schedule of events.
With so many speakers and information sessions, awesome conference sponsors (including us – rareLife Solutions!) and the guarantee to meet dozens of zebras just like you, we are counting down the days until Vegas! Will we see you there? #DazzleVegas
